Non-Federal Grants and Loans (Veteran Voices)
Some of the other resources I was looking at as far as helping finance my education, I looked at the universities themselves and how much-- there's all this federal aid that goes into it. Certain schools are able to contribute a little bit more as far as federal aid goes to their students' education than others. I also looked at fellowships and scholarships that were available.

I received a fellowship my first year in the university. It helped that the school had quite a few fellowships to be able to apply to. But that also funded an entire semester beyond the GI Bill.

The scholarships were a big one. So I looked at scholarships as far as what scholarships are being applied specifically to veterans. Turns out that there's a massive surplus of organizations and individuals that have just kind of thrown scholarships out there too. If you are a marine, if you were a soldier, if you were an airman after these dates and you're going to school, apply, and they'll help fund a large part of your tuition.

There's even apps out there that help you look for scholarships. There's so much money out there for, one, for students going to school. But especially veterans going to school, there's a large amount of financial aid that is available anywhere you go beyond just the GI Bill.

In this video, you will hear from transitioning veterans and current students talk about their experience financing their college education.
