Growth Mindset and Your Professional Brand

When it comes to thinking about your professional brand, how you're perceived in the job marketplace, what your reputation will be-- the first thing is to go into the process with what professor Carol Dweck calls a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the opposite of a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset is saying something like, I'm just not good at math, or I'm just not really someone who likes to write. That is saying that you can never change.

A growth mindset is adding this tiny little word yet. I'm not good at math yet. I'm not a people person yet. I have no skills that a corporation would be interested in yet. Make sure that you don't get in your own way first. Make sure that when you enter a room, when you walk into a job hunt, when you talk to your friends and family about your job search, you're not cutting out any options unnecessarily. Growth mindset means anything is possible, any job is an opportunity for you, and you have unlimited opportunities in this next transition
