Gravitas / Passion Introduction
Transcript
In the movie Serendipity, a character says, the Greeks didn't write obituaries. They only asked one question after a man died. Did he have passion?
Now there's actually very little evidence to confirm that this was actually a ritual or a question that was discussed when someone had died. This quote, however, underscores the reality that passion drives our human emotions like love, hatred, happiness, and sadness. And our emotions impact what we do on a day-to-day basis.
So when we look at passion through the lens of our careers, our level of passion for what we do separates excellence from mediocrity. If we have a strong devotion in what we do, we are more likely to achieve excellence in that endeavor. In the military, we had a passion for serving our country and the mission. As we transition, we need to seek a new passion, a new mission so we can achieve that same level of excellence in the next stage of our lives.
So in this lesson, we're going to hear from Simon Sinek about discovering our why and our new purpose. Simon is an optimist, organizational consultant, inspirational speaker, and author of five books, including Start with Why, Find Your Why, and the soon to be published The Infinite Game.
