Entrepreneurial Mindset

Entrepreneurial Mindset
Everybody has to become entrepreneurial in their mindset. And that's because there are some real realities out there in terms of what the job of a human is today and where the jobs for humans are going. So essentially, if you think about the big changes in the modern world, yes, we live longer and we live longer and healthier lives, which is a great thing. We also have technologies today that don't just do the jobs that humans used to do more efficiently and more quickly, but more and more we use technologies to delegate out what we thought was primarily the task of a human, right-- keeping track of information, sorting through information, giving us facts, putting things through an algorithm and spitting out an answer. We thought those were all things that human judgment-- primarily lay in the hands of a human. And we also thought that creativity primarily lay in the hands of a human.

But I think what is actually happening now is that there is, more and more now, this ability for humans and technology to connect with one another such that the technology becomes the extension of the human. But that technology that's the extension of you, the human, is only going to serve as an aid if you understand how you're going to use it.

And so essentially, what are you doing throughout your career? You're asking yourself, what's my value added? What do I bring to the table? What problem am I solving? That's what you're asking yourself during every career transition that you make because as you-- you alone as a human can actually be the one to answer that question, right? I'm solving this problem and now here are the tools I'm going to use to help solve that problem.

Technology can help aid you in that solving of that problem, but it's the notion that I'm the one that's going to solve the problem still lies within the human. And so that's why I think having that entrepreneurial mindset is really important for everybody.

I think you do have to be entrepreneurial every day because people are clobbering you with a lot of choice and a lot of information. And if you're not keeping track of what you need and where you're going, you easily become a victim to choice and information, rather than empowered by it. And you easily get distracted. And so that's the reason why I think it's really important for you to always know your goals and to have focus on that.

I also think that, yes, there's a lot of choice out there. Yes, there's a lot of information out there. Yes, there's a lot of technologies out there that help you navigate that choice, navigate that information. But if you're not the driver of all that, it's going to mislead you. It's going to lead you astray, and you're not going to actually end up in a good place.

And so that's why-- what essentially an entrepreneurial mindset does is it helps you weed out all the noise and zero in on that handful of choices that you're essentially going to use to keep creating yourself.

In this video, world-renowned expert in Choice, Dr. Sheena Iyengar, will discuss how you can be entrepreneurial in your mindset as it relates to creating and making better choices for yourself.
